It’s Fall, which means the Champions Tour will have the SAS Championship. This tournament always takes place in the Fall, and has been around since 2001. It’s played in North Carolina in the USA, at the Prestonwood Country Club.

Last years winner of the tournament was Ross Cochran, who is only the 2nd two-time winner. He won in 2013 and 2010, while Bruce Lietzke won it back to back in 2001 and 2002.

Last year was a tight one. David Frost hit 67-67-66 to come in 2nd at -16, but Cochran managed to do it in just 199 strokes with a 66-66-67 in the three rounds, to claim the $315k purse. A lot better than what he shot in 2010, where he came in at -14, still 2 ahead of Tom Pernice Jr.

SAS Championship 2014 Betting Odds:

  2. Kenny Perry: 6/1
  3. Colin Montgomerie: 13/2
  4. Woody Austin: 13/2
  5. Paul Goydos: 22/1
  6. Russ Cochran: 22/1
  7. Kirk Triplett: 22/1
  8. Tom Pernice Jr: 28/1
  9. Fred Funk: 28/1
  10. David Frost: 28/1

Let’s get to the SAS Championship Betting Tips:

Winner #1: Kirk Triplett

Kirk Tripletts consistency in the Champions Tour make him a good bet.

In his last two tournaments he has came very close, with a 5th position in the Quebec Championship, and 6th in the Nature Valley. Triplett was just 1 off a 5th placed finish in the Nature Valley, and if it wasn’t for a disastrous round 2 there he would have probably ended up 3rd.

He also played here last year at the SAS Championship, where he finished 3rd with a lot of consistency all through the weekend. He only played here once before previously which was the prior year. He had two weak rounds but got a 69 on the last round, and we feel he is comfortable with this course, and is a solid bet.

Bet: Kirk Triplett E/W. 25/1 at http://www.GTBets.com.

Winner #2: Mark O’Meara

A dark horse bet at 50/1, but we think it is worth a punt. O’Meara has had a mixed Champions Tour this year with only 2 Top 5 finishes, however he rocked it a month ago at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open coming 2nd, so we know he still has what it takes. He’s also had respectable finishes at the Boeing Classic and Shaw Charity Classic.

Although he has never won this course, last year he tied for 11th after shooting a 65th on the last day. If not for two poor rounds previously – who knows what would have happened. In 2012 he was tied for 10th.

O’Meara has the capabilities to, if not win this course, at least get that Top 5 finish we strive for with bets like this.

Bet: O’Meara, 50/1 E/W at Bovada for Americans.

Winner #3: Russ Cochran

This is a course where Cochran always does solid at. His main issue is inconsistency. He came 5th in 2011, and in 2012 finished 16th however he shot a 66 on round 1 to lead the day. Pressure just got to him. Last year he of course won it, as he remained consistent throughout with 2 66’s and a 67 to win by a stroke over David Frost.

Cochran is a great price at 22/1.

Bet: Cochran E/W. 22/1 at Bovada for Americans.

SAS CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS & ANALYSIS:

YES! YES! YES!

That’s what we are talking about. We said Kirk Triplett was consistent and he was our #1 bet, and he showed us why with a massive win in a course that the man just DOMINATED.

kirk-triplett-win

We almost had another cash too, as Mark O’Meara shot 69 and 69 in the first two rounds. Unfortunately he shot a 73 in the final round. If he had kept that consistency and shot 69 he would have finished in the top 5 for a massive payout.

Either way – huge win for us!!!

Special Note to Americans: The majority of my bets rely on each-way betting which is an insurance bet on the golfer to place in the top 5. Unfortunately no American sportsbooks offer that option. I recommend betting at Bovada where you can choose to bet "To Win" and also "Top 5". Split your bet over both of those. Plus get $250 in Free Bets - Only available at Bovada.
