It’s one of the most prestigious events on the Champions Tour – it’s the Tradition, currently known as the Regions Tradition, and it takes place in Birmingham, Alabama this week.

The Tradition began in 1989. Don Bies won the inaugral event, and then Jack Nicklaus would win the next two.

It was held in Arizona up until 2003, when it moved to Oregon. It’s now been played in Alabama since 2011. In that period of time, we’ve seen Tom Lehman win it twice in a row, and then David Frost followed by last years winner Kenny Perry.

Lehman came 3rd last year at this tough tournament, and the year before when it was 3 rounds came tied for 7th and is always a contender.

It should be a good tournament. Let’s check out the Tradition betting odds followed by the tips:

The Tradition 2015 Betting Odds:

  1. Bernhard Langer: 6/1
  2. Kenny Perry: 9/1
  3. Tom Lehman: 11/1
  4. Joe Durant: 14/1
  5. Colin Montgomerie: 14/1
  6. Woody Austin: 14/1
  7. Tom Pernice Jr: 16/1
  8. Michael Allen: 18/1
  9. Jeff Maggert: 20/1
  10. Olin Browne: 22/1

And with that let’s see the tips we have for you:

The Tradition Betting Tip #1: Tom Lehman

Do we really need to justify this one? The man dominates this course. Our rule is if it’s 10/1 or above we bet E/W and he’s 11/1. He’s also coming into this one on the back of some excellent form.

It’s hard to find reasons to NOT bet Lehman.

Bet: Let’s go Lehman for the Trifecta. Bet him E/W at Bovada for Americans.

The Tradition Betting Tip #2: Mark Calcavecchia

This is one of those courses where it bodes well for repeat performers; as in if you perform well here previously, there’s a good chance you can do it again. And the 200/1 Mark Calcavecchia has a solid history here. Last year he came 2nd just behind Perry – and it was all due to a bad 74 day.

The year before he was tied for 3rd with 3 impressive rounds. Even the year before that – he shot two 69s but also two 73s.

He hasn’t played as much on this tour, but he had a 3rd position finish at the end of April. That was impresive and he’s going to have to come into this one confident.

200/1 is a scary price, so a quarter unit bet is probably best.

Bet: Marc Calcavecchia 200/1 E/W at Bovada for Americans.

Americans: Bet the golf at Bovada and get $250 in free bets. More details.

Special Note to Americans: The majority of my bets rely on each-way betting which is an insurance bet on the golfer to place in the top 5. Unfortunately no American sportsbooks offer that option. I recommend betting at Bovada where you can choose to bet "To Win" and also "Top 5". Split your bet over both of those. Plus get $250 in Free Bets - Only available at Bovada.
