Betting Note: Betting amounts are based on confidence level. My normal betting amounts are $125, $250 & $500, although I will go as low as $62.50 and as high as $1,000 on occasion.

E/W (Each-Way) bets means you split that amount. So if it is a $250 E/W bet, that means $125 on them to win, $125 on them to place (Usually in the Top 5).

We have the Joburg Open this week, the co-sanctioned event between the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. It initially started in 2007, where the Argentinian Ariel Canete won it.

Richard Sterne won it the next year and the South African would set up a trend – other than Anders Hansen, the Dane, winning it in 2009, the last 5 tournaments have all been won by a South African.

History on this course also suggests consistency is the key – with both Richard Sterne and Charl Schwartzel being winners twice in a row. And the 2nd year that Richard Sterne won, Schwartzel came 2nd. Interestingly though – neither one of those golfers looked anywhere near remotely good last year when George Coetzee took it down.

It’s going to be a very interesting tournament. Let’s see what we’ve got this week but first a quick look at the betting odds:

Joburg Open 2015 Betting Odds:

  1. George Coetzee: 12/1
  2. Alex Noren: 12/1
  3. Andy Sullivan: 16/1
  4. Gregory Bourdy: 16/1
  5. Thomas Aiken: 18/1
  6. Richard Sterne: 22/1
  7. Byeong-Hun An: 22/1
  8. Jaco Van Zyl: 28/1
  9. Thomas Pieters: 30/1
  10. Tyrell Hatton: 30/1

And let’s see what tips we have:

Winner #1: Thomas Aiken

Priced at 18/1, Thomas Aiken has had 3 Top 10 finishes here. He’s never won it but damn has he came close with 3rd, 6th and 5th in the last 4 years. Those are some great places.

Unlike Coetzee, who is the joint favourite, he is coming into this one on the back of some average form. He has had two top 10 finishes this season alone. He’s also nice and rested having not played since the Maybank Malaisan Open where he didn’t make the cut.

Aiken has the ability to win this tournament, and has a great chance of making the top 5.

Aiken is our only bet of the week. We just can’t justify betting anyone else.

Bet: Thomas Aiken 18/1 E/W at https://www.GTBets.com.

JOBURG OPEN RESULTS & ANALYSIS:

So so close!

We had a great week in the LPGA with two MASSIVE winners including a 101/1 that came 2nd – and Thomas Aiken almost got us another cash here.

Aiken finished up at -13. He needed to get to -15 for the cash, as that would have gotten him in 2nd. What’s sad is he started off so well shooting 67 the first two days but he could only do the 70 for just under par on the final two days. So close, but thank you anyway Thomas Aiken for giving us an exciting ride.

Since 2014 I've been providing free golf tips on a weekly basis. Each tournament analysis, research and writing the betting tips takes over 10 hours per tournament. That doesn’t include watching each tournament and taking notes etc. It's why I do less and less non-PGA tips these days.

I’ve delivered a lot of big winners over the years, and all I ask is if you appreciate the work I put in and so I can continue to keep the tips free, a donation is highly recommended and much appreciated.

While I obviously make enough money from my golf bets, this sort of financial support would motivate me to write more content on here. This would include golf prop bets like first round leader, head vs head and much more plus daily fantasy golf articles. Cheers!
