Betting Note: Betting amounts are based on confidence level. My normal betting amounts are $125, $250 & $500, although I will go as low as $62.50 and as high as $1,000 on occasion. My most common bet is $125 and if you classify that as 1 unit, then I have made a 667.93 unit profit from 2014-2020. (full stats)

E/W (Each-Way) bets means you split that amount. So if it is a $250 E/W bet, that means $125 on them to win, $125 on them to place (Usually in the Top 5).

This week, the European Tour offers up the Madeira Islands Open as one of their two events. The other event is the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Matchplay.

The 2015 Madeira Islands Open – a co-sanctioned event with the challenge tour – was actually meant to be held earlier this year. However the tournament was abanded due to just horrific weather. It was just 4 constant days of brutal weather meaning not even 36 holes could be complete.

That was just the 3rd time an event was cancelled, and this will be the first time that it is replayed.

We actually skipped the Madeira Islands when it was meant to be played as we looked at the forecast and thought “yeah this is going to be a crap shoot”. Pity we couldn’t have bet on that!!!!

Interesting field mainly made up of Challenge Tour players. Based on that, we’re going to be very conservative with the betting this week. Even though there is some we feel strongly on we don’t have the data for the required simulations.

Madeira Islands Open 2015 Betting Odds:

  1. Ricardo Gouveia: 16/1
  2. Ryan Fox: 25/1
  3. John Parry: 25/1
  4. Rhys Davies: 25/1
  5. Prom Meesawat: 33/1
  6. Carlos Del Moral: 35/1
  7. Joachim B Hansen: 35/1
  8. Scott Henry: 35/1
  9. Lee Slattery: 35/1
  10. John Hahn: 40/1

Madeira Islands Open Betting Tip #1: Ricardo Gouveia

On the challenge tour, Ricardo Gouveia has been exceptional. He has never played on this course but his form has been just fantastic, and you have to think that in a more prestigious tournament such as this, he will step up his game. We know we would!

To top that – Ricardo is Portuguese, and so playing his home country we have to bank on him to do the business. Very rare too you’ll see a favourite at those high odds.

We’ll go with a half unit on Gouveia.

Bet: Ricardo Gouveia half unit bet – to win and E/W. 16/1 at Bovada for Americans.

We’re going to do 3 other bets – all quarter unit bets more for fun than anything else. It’s up to you if you want to follow them or not. We’ve did some research – but as we said above we don’t have the data to do the usual work and research.

We’re going to take Jose-Filipe Lima based on his course form. 3 top 10s in the last 4 years. He’s slowly coming into form too with a 17th place, 19th place and 14th place in his last few tournaments. Nothing mind blowing but we like it.

We’ll also take Scott Henry. He has the right mix – two solid results showing he is in form with a 4th and a 16th place, and was 2nd here last year. Like that.

And the final bet is going to be Marcel Schneider who from his history looks to be a big tournament player. Someone who rises and plays better at tournaments like this.

Bet: Lima is 50/1, Henry is 35/1 and Schneider is a whopping 90/1. Bet all 3 of them a quarter unit to win and E/W at

Since 2014 I've been providing free golf tips on a weekly basis. Each tournament analysis, research and writing the betting tips takes over 10 hours per tournament. That doesn’t include watching each tournament and taking notes etc. It's why I do less and less non-PGA tips these days.

I’ve delivered a lot of big winners over the years, and all I ask is if you appreciate the work I put in and so I can continue to keep the tips free, a donation is highly recommended and much appreciated.

While I obviously make enough money from my golf bets, this sort of financial support would motivate me to write more content on here. This would include golf prop bets like first round leader, head vs head and much more plus daily fantasy golf articles. Cheers!
