So nice to have the European Tour back in Europe.

It’s the Open De Espana, otherwise known as the Spanish Open. It’s a great week for sports fans in Spain as earlier in the week we had the Formula 1, and now it’s the European Tour.

Hosted at various courses over the years, this year it will be held at the Real Club de Golf El Prat, located in Barcelona.

Last years winner was Miguel Angel Jimenz, after a playoff. A lot of big names have won this prestigious tournament. Sergio Garcia is the massive favourite at 5/1 – which is always great to see a big favourite like that because it affects all the odds of the others like crazy.

We normally don’t see that in the European Tour. Mostly the PGA, with McIlroy and now Spieth doing that. But this time around we have it which is nice.

It’d be really cool to see Jimenez win it though – 62 years without a back to back. He’s a whopping 45/1 which is probably just slightly +EV. We’d recommend a half unit bet at most on Jimenez.

Speaking of the odds, let’s check them out before we do our Open De Espana Betting Tips:

Open De Espana 2015 Betting Odds:

  1. Sergio Garcia: 5/1
  2. Emiliano Grillo: 22/1
  3. Tommy Fleetwood: 25/1
  4. Thomas Aiken: 25/1
  5. Romain Wattel: 28/1
  6. Victor Dubuisson: 30/1
  7. David Howell: 30/1
  8. Richie Ramsay: 30/1
  9. Pablo Larrazabal: 30/1
  10. Thorbjorn Olesen: 33/1

Some interesting odds. Let’s get to the betting tips:

Open De Espana Betting Tip #1: Thomas Aiken

It’s only been held at this course once before, and the winner then was Thomas Aiken. We will be backing the joint 3rd favourite Thomas Aiken to win this tournament again.

Back then, he won by 2 strokes and that was with a par on round 3. He had 2 -4 days that really won him the tournament. Aiken is a solid pick here, coming in on form after a top 5 finish last time he played.

We had looked at Aiken for this one a few weeks ago – but we were worried he’d be rusty. Last week he showed he is anything but. He played some terrific golf, and looked raring to go. It was a very strategic break, and we’ve got to go with Aiken here.

Bet: Thomas Aiken E/W at Bovada for Americans.

Open De Espana Betting Tip #1: Betting Tip #2: Romain Wattel

Wattel came tied for 11th when it was held at the same course. he had an exceptional first day that got him there with 67-71-72-72.

Wattel has been selective in the tournaments he’s played this year, but has got a 2nd and an 8th out of his last 3 tournaments.

He is a long shot bet – but the way this course is and how difficult it can be – Romain has the ability to rack up a great round, and that might be all we need if he can be consistent.

We’ll be conservative however and go with a half unit bet.

Bet: Half unit on Wattel E/W at https://www.GTBets.com.

Special Note to Americans: The majority of my bets rely on each-way betting which is an insurance bet on the golfer to place in the top 5. Unfortunately no American sportsbooks offer that option. I recommend betting at Bovada where you can choose to bet "To Win" and also "Top 5". Split your bet over both of those. Plus get $250 in Free Bets - Only available at Bovada.
