Americans: Bet the golf at Bovada and get $250 in free bets. More details.

We go into this weeks PGA Tour event, the John Deere Classic, with the sad news that Rory McIlroy may be out of the Open. As I’m sure you’ve heard he has injured his ankle and it looks like he will be out.

Very disappointing stuff.

Quick note as the bad news continues; we do NOT have betting tips posted for the US Womens Open or the Scottish Open. They are at courses they have never played on this week in both tournaments, and there are a lot of questions – particularly in regard to the Scottish Open. Nothing stood out for us in the form either although we’ll probably have a flutter on Stacy Carter at 11/1.

In better news – the new PGA Golf game hits next week for the consoles. Although as an XBox One owner and EA Access member I get to play it a week early – I believe it’s Thursday I get to access it. Can’t wait for that. Always have a lot of fun with it and playing online with my friends – and being able to do it on the XBox One with Skype going is the best, as I get to see my friends reactions when they screw up a 3 feet putt as opposed to just hearing it.

Anyway – this week is the John Deere Classic. Initially started in 1971 as the Quad Cities Open, it has been known as the John Deer Classic since 1999. One of the most historic moments in the tour was when Steve Stricker won it a whopping three times in a row. He did that in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Even in the last few years he’s been solid with a 5th place, 10th place and 11th place. Would be cool to see him do that again. Win once that is – not another three times in a row!

Last years winner of the John Deer Classic was Brian Harman.

John Deere Classic 2015 Betting Odds:

  1. Jordan Spieth: 3/1
  2. Zach Johnson: 9/1
  3. Kevin Kisner: 16/1
  4. Ryan Moore: 25/1
  5. Steve Stricker: 30/1
  6. Harris English: 30/1
  7. Tony Finau: 33/1
  8. Brian Harman: 33/1
  9. Robert Streb: 33/1
  10. Justin Thomas: 33/1

Then the odds jump to 50/1. Spieth goes into it as a big favourite. Way too big to bet.

John Deere Classic Betting Tip #1: Steve Stricker

30/1 isn’t the best of prices, but we do feel Stricker is worth a quarter unit bet on.

One thing we look at is course form, and it’s hard to find better course form than Stricker. Even when he hasn’t been winning he has thrown in some absolutely incredible performances. Note too that in 2004 he came 4th and he also didn’t play it a few years.

Strickers form at the moment is rocky – in the few tournaments he has played he has managed to get in the top 40 but that’s about it. However on a course like this he is worth a quarter unit bet easily. His current form is what is putting us off from going any higher.

Bet: Quarter unit on Steve Stricker 30/1 to win and choose E/W at Bovada for Americans.

John Deere Classic Betting Tip #2: Zach Johnson

We tipped Zach Johnson quite recently – at the Travelers Championship where he was 35/1 and brought a 6th place finish. We had him for the top 5 so that was a brutally close cash. However we watched his form and we were extremely impressed with his performance. It looks like he may be back to the Zach Johnson of old.

That’s some bloody perfect timing as he’s coming up to the John Deere Classic where he’s had a top 3 finish for the last 4 years. Johnson is coming into this on fine form, and with his course history he is worth a full bet.

Bet: Johnson 9/1 and a full unit to win Bovada for Americans.

John Deere Classic Betting Tip #3: Scott Brown

This is a quarter unit bet. He’s had some great results on this course and this is the type of course he usually excels at. He’s not really been playing that great but he wasn’t last year either when he got 5th. He’s one of those picks where long odds dictate it and 66/1 is nice for us. If it was 40/1 we would pass.

Bet: Quarter unit on Scott Brown to win and E/W at https://www.GTBets.com.

Americans: Bet the golf at Bovada and get $250 in free bets. More details.

Special Note to Americans: The majority of my bets rely on each-way betting which is an insurance bet on the golfer to place in the top 5. Unfortunately no American sportsbooks offer that option. I recommend betting at Bovada where you can choose to bet "To Win" and also "Top 5". Split your bet over both of those. Plus get $250 in Free Bets - Only available at Bovada.
